You are currently viewing The Lion’s Gate Portal, 888, and the Energy of August: An Invitation to Come Home to Yourself

Every August, I find myself drawn into a deeper awareness of slowing down, reflecting, and reconnecting with what truly nourishes me. This time of year carries a quiet invitation to turn inward, listen, and reconnect with the wisdom that already exists within us.

During the heat of summer, one of my favorite things to do is simply lie in the sun and feel its warmth. There is something deeply grounding about being still, allowing myself to slow down, and feeling connected to the natural world around me.

And then there is water.

I have always loved swimming and floating. There is something about being surrounded by water that allows me to let go in a completely different way. Sometimes I don’t even need to swim. Sitting beside the water, listening to it move, watching the sunlight dance across its surface, or simply being near it can feel restorative.

I’ve always felt that different bodies of water carry their own unique energy. The ocean can feel expansive and powerful. A lake can feel peaceful and reflective. A river carries movement and reminds us that we don’t have to hold on to everything.

Whether you experience these qualities energetically or simply notice how being near water affects your mind and body, there is something beautiful about allowing nature to bring us back into the present moment.

For me, these simple experiences are reminders that healing doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes it begins with slowing down enough to notice where you are.

And perhaps that is part of what makes August so meaningful.

The Energy of August

August carries a unique energy. We are still immersed in the fullness of summer, but there is also a subtle awareness that the season is beginning to shift.

The days will eventually become shorter. The intensity of summer will soften. A new season is quietly waiting on the other side.

This natural transition can offer us an opportunity to pause and reflect.

What am I ready to release?

What do I want to carry forward?

What would it feel like to be more fully present in my own life?

I find that seasonal transitions often invite us to notice things we may have been too busy to acknowledge.

What has changed?

What no longer fits?

Where have we grown?

What are we being called toward next?

We don’t always need to have the answers.

Sometimes simply creating space to listen is enough.

What Is the Lion’s Gate Portal?

Around August 8, many spiritual traditions and communities recognize what is known as the Lion’s Gate Portal.

The Lion’s Gate is associated with the Sun moving through Leo and is often viewed as a time of heightened spiritual awareness, transformation, courage, and alignment. August 8 is also connected with the number 8, which is why you may hear this period referred to as 8/8 or the 888 portal.

Whether you view the Lion’s Gate as a spiritual energetic event, a meaningful symbol, or simply an invitation to pause and reflect, there is something beautiful about the symbolism surrounding it.

The lion represents courage.

Not the absence of fear, but the willingness to move forward even when we don’t have complete certainty.

It can remind us to live more authentically, listen to our inner wisdom, and have the courage to release what no longer feels aligned.

Sometimes courage is a dramatic leap.

Other times, it is something much quieter.

It can be choosing yourself.

Setting a boundary.

Saying no.

Beginning again.

Or finally allowing yourself to acknowledge what you already know.

The Meaning of 888

The number 888 is often associated in numerology and spiritual traditions with abundance, balance, alignment, and personal power.

When we hear the word abundance, our minds often go immediately to money, success, or material things. But abundance can take so many other forms.

Abundance can be:

  • Feeling safe enough to rest
  • Having relationships that nourish you
  • Having the freedom to be yourself
  • Feeling connected to your intuition
  • Having energy for the things that matter to you
  • Experiencing joy without feeling like you have to earn it
  • Having the space to appreciate the life you are already living

Perhaps abundance isn’t always about having more.

Perhaps sometimes it is about becoming more aware of what is already present.

Coming Back Into Your Body

So much of modern life pulls us away from the present moment.

We spend hours thinking, planning, worrying, scrolling, working, and anticipating what comes next.

And when we’ve experienced chronic stress or difficult experiences, this disconnection can become even stronger. We may spend so much time trying to stay ahead of what might happen that we lose touch with what is happening right now.

Coming back into the body can be a simple way of interrupting that pattern.

It might be taking a few slow breaths.

Going for a walk without your phone.

Stretching.

Dancing.

Sitting quietly.

Spending time in nature.

Noticing the sensations in your body without immediately trying to change them.

These practices don’t make difficult emotions disappear, but they can create a little more space between ourselves and the thoughts, fears, and stories that can sometimes overwhelm us.

Sometimes being present is not about feeling good.

It is simply about being willing to be where you are.

From Surviving to Healing

Many of us have learned how to survive long before we learned how to truly feel present in our lives.

We learn to push through.

To stay busy.

To anticipate other people’s needs.

To ignore our own signals.

To keep going even when something inside us is asking us to stop.

Coping can help us survive, but healing invites us into something different.

Healing can mean learning to listen to yourself again.

Learning what feels grounding.

Learning what brings you peace.

Learning to recognize when your body needs movement and when it needs rest.

Learning that you are allowed to experience pleasure, beauty, and joy without having to accomplish anything first.

For me, one of the most meaningful parts of healing has been learning that I don’t always need to be doing something.

There is value in stillness.

There is value in receiving.

There is value in allowing myself to simply be.

And that brings me back to something I have always loved about floating.

We Don’t Always Have to Swim

There are seasons in life when we feel like we are constantly swimming.

Swimming toward the next goal.

Swimming through uncertainty.

Swimming through difficult emotions.

Swimming just to keep ourselves afloat.

But what if we allowed ourselves to stop for a moment?

What if we trusted that we could be supported without constantly trying to control what happens next?

Floating doesn’t mean giving up.

It doesn’t mean that we aren’t moving forward.

Sometimes floating is simply allowing ourselves to soften.

To breathe.

To receive.

To remember that we don’t have to carry everything by ourselves.

That is something I have always loved about being in water. There is a moment when you stop trying to control every movement and allow yourself to be held.

There is a lesson in that.

Sometimes healing asks us to do less, not more.

A Simple August Practice

As we move through this time of year, consider creating a few quiet moments to reconnect with yourself.

You might spend some time outdoors, take a slow walk, sit somewhere peaceful, meditate, journal, or simply allow yourself to be still for a few minutes.

If you have access to water, spend some time near it. Swim if you can. Float. Sit beside it. Listen to it.

Let yourself experience the season rather than rushing through it.

You might also journal about these questions:

What am I ready to release?

What am I ready to receive?

Where am I being asked to trust myself more deeply?

What would it look like to live from my heart rather than from fear?

You don’t have to force an answer.

Simply create enough stillness to listen.

An Invitation to Come Home to Yourself

Whether or not you connect with the spiritual traditions surrounding the Lion’s Gate Portal and 888, August can be a beautiful reminder that transformation doesn’t always require us to become someone new.

Sometimes healing is about returning.

Returning to your body.

Returning to your intuition.

Returning to your joy.

Returning to your creativity.

Returning to the parts of yourself that became quiet while you were simply trying to survive.

The natural world reminds us that everything moves through seasons. There are periods of growth, periods of rest, periods of release, and periods of beginning again.

We are not meant to remain the same.

And we are not meant to rush every transformation.

Perhaps the greatest invitation of this season is not to chase something outside of ourselves, but to become quiet enough to remember what has been within us all along.

Your own inner wisdom.

Your own light.

Your own capacity to heal.

This August, may you give yourself permission to slow down, receive, and come home to yourself.
